Fighting for some space

The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, Copenhagen, Denmark. June 2016.
Stainless steel balls, acrylic, mechanical components, electric motor.
Dimensions 60cm x 60cm x 120cm.

Description

The artwork is a machine that explores the transition from order to chaos through motion and sound. the stainless steel balls can be seen as individuals confined within a well defined boundary – the circular disk. the disk follows a completely ordered repetitive motion and gives the impression that it can fully control the behaviour of the individuals inside. However, it is in fact impossible to control them completely. They experience infinite degrees of freedom, but still only within a restricted area. This vain process is expressed as an undefined mess of cracking sounds.
